Our Heroes
Nancy Battles, MRI at Jewish - Downtown Louisville (submitted by David Dafoe)
I have a great deal of experience with the MRI Department at JH - over the last three years I have had more than a dozen MRIs on my brain and/or spine. I have been an in patient and an out patient..... I have walked in, been wheeled in by chair and by stretcher. I know which MRI machine is more comfortable, which one has music you can hear, which one is in the coolest room, which one is louder, which one is smaller in diameter and I have a clear preference. I had a MRI scan last Friday, February 29 which was completed by one of the nicest people I have met at JH. Her name is Nancy Battles and she is spectacular. She guided me into the room after a short medical interview with a demeanor that made me relaxed and confident. With kindness and professionalism, she situated me onto the machine bench to get the testing started. Once in the machine, she asked if I was comfortable and explained the test was to start. She asked after each section of the procedure if I was OK and then told me how long each upcoming test would take - this was fantastic! Her gentleness in converstaion truly made the experience so much more pleasant than normal. I am very aware of the pressures of hospital work - it is not easy and the stress is sometimes overwhelming. I worked at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati for over ten years so I have first hand experience. It is really exceptional when you get the kind of care and professionalism exhibited by Nancy. I own a company and I have hired many employees over the years and I know a gem when I see one. In Nancy, I see one.
